Sheaf Poetry Festival - Internship opportunities

The Poetry Business will be supporting the administration for Sheaf Poetry Festival this year, and we are looking for four volunteers to support us both in the lead up to, and during the festival. These roles are ideal for anyone who is interested in working in arts administration, events management or marketing.

Sheaf Poetry Festival

Friday 17th May – Saturday 25th May 2019

 

The Poetry Business will be supporting the administration for Sheaf Poetry Festival this year, and we are looking for four volunteers to support us both in the lead up to, and during the festival. These roles are ideal for anyone who is interested in working in arts administration, events management or marketing.

Training will be provided for successful candidates. Please note that these roles are unpaid, and mainly for those looking to gain some work experience in the arts. Travel expenses will be covered, and interns will be offered free access to all festival events.

 

Marketing Internship

We’re looking for a marketing intern to support us with the marketing of Sheaf Poetry Festival. You should be a confident social media user, who is able to produce engaging and coherent content for our social media platforms and the Sheaf festival blog both prior to and during the festival. This role will also involve writing blog posts about a selection of the events at the festival to post on the Sheaf website.

 Job specification

- Assisting with the generation of marketing content surrounding Sheaf Poetry Festival events, including drafting copy, composing publicity quotes, creating visual and audio files for social media and creating social media posts.
- Attending festival events, interviewing poets and writing engaging blog posts for the festival website.
- Collating survey data from festival attendees to feed into Arts Council England reporting.
- Assisting with the distribution of festival brochures and other festival marketing material.

Person specification

- Able to write coherently and fluently in an engaging manner.
- Able to work well independently, and as part of a small team.
- Confident using Twitter/Facebook/Instagram.
- Excellent copywriting and proofreading skills.
- An interest in poetry is essential.

 

This role will flexible and part-time from the start of May 2019.

Venue and Box office Assistants (x3)

We’re looking for three Venue and Box Office Assistants to be part of the core festival team to support the day-to-day running of Sheaf Poetry Festival to ensure that the venues are set up and that each reading/workshop runs smoothly and on time.

Job specification

- Working with the festival ticketing systems and managing admissions on the door at each event.
- Supporting the set-up of each venue in advance of the events. ensuring that venues are fully prepared in advance of each event, liaising with technical staff, artists and festival management team.
- Support the festival management team to ensure that events run on time, and to a high standard
- Distributing and collating feedback forms from audiences to feed into Arts Council England reporting.

Person Specification

- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent time management skills
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Enjoys working as part of a team.
- Available at evenings and weekends.
- An interest in poetry is essential.
