Gerard Benson

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of the poet Gerard Benson, who passed away on Monday 28th April this week, a few days after his 83rd Birthday.

Gerard was one of the most accomplished and generous of poets, and one of the most beloved. An immensely gifted teacher, and brilliant performer,

He worked with literally hundreds of poets and poetry lovers who were changed for knowing him. Best known perhaps as a prime mover behind the iconic public arts scheme ‘Poems on The Underground’.

It will be for his own wonderful poems that he will be best remembered.
