The North takes a breather
"We have decided for the first time since 1986 to postpone The North. It will now appear in October (ie missing the spring issue). Apologies to all our writers and subscribers.
We are crazily busy, not least because our 25 Year events continue till June, and so, together with all the usual commitments, it was either take a break or have a breakdown. Thank you for your patience and for your continuing support -- and thank you too for all the great feedback on the latest issue with its redesign -- much appreciated.
We will be considering submissions again from May." — Ann and Peter Sansom
Submitting work to The North
Postage rates:
'Large' letters (which include A4 size) and 'packets' are charged at a higher rate than 'letters'. Please be aware of this when sending us mail - if we are asked to pay excess postage (which is £1 on top of the underpaid amount) we will ask Royal Mail to return letters to the sender.
We advise you always to put a return address on the outside of your envelope.
We welcome submissions of poetry:
- Send work by snail mail, not email.
- Include either a stamped addressed envelope, or IRCs and an addressed envelope. Tell us if you don't need the copies back.
- Send up to 6 poems.
- Put your name and address on every sheet. Our office is full of pieces of paper, and things can slip astray of their moorings.
- We have no restrictions on subject matter or style, but remember we're a magazine of contemporary poetry. We have high editorial standards. We look for energy, imagination and technique.
- We try to reply within 6 weeks of receipt.
- Taking out a subscription won't affect your chances of publication. But it will win you our love and respect, and help to keep us afloat.
- We also need good critical articles and reviews to do with contemporary poetry. In first instance, just send us ideas, synopsis, etc.
- We are able to pay a small amount for contributions; how much depends on our financial status at the time.
