About Us

Our Partners

The Poetry Business is always interested in forging links with other literary organisations – both in the UK and abroad. Contact us if you would like to be involved.

We are very happy to be associated with the following organisations:

The Arvon Foundation

Ann & Peter Sansom, the directors of The Poetry Business, have worked in freelance capacities as tutors on Arvon courses for many years, and are keen supporters of its work.

Last year, the business began working in partnership with Arvon, hosting Poetry Business residential courses at its premises. (The next course is planned for February 2010 - see here for details.)

The University of Sheffield

The Poetry Business is delighted to have The University of Sheffield Faculty of Arts & Humanities as the sponsor for the new Sheffield Prize category of its competition. In this way, the University supports the business in terms of both finances and marketing, and we are very grateful.

Museums & Galleries

The Sheffield Museums & Galleries Trust is a keen supporter of its local partners, including The Poetry Business. Consequently, the 2008 Book & Pamphlet Competition winners' reading will be hosted by them in its exhibition space in Millenium Galleries.

The Cadaverine

The Cadaverine publishes creative prose, journalism and poetry by young writers, and the Poetry Business is a big supporter of its work. Consequently, we have formed informal links with this online magazine, providing free advertising space on occasion and recommending it to gifted young writers who submit to The North and attend our events.

Off the Shelf Festival

In partnership with last year’s Off the Shelf festival, The Poetry Business hosted a masterclass and open workshop with Michael Laskey; and Ann and Peter were the panel in a ‘Poetry Idol’ event. This partnership continues, and plans have already been made for our 2009/10 collaboration – two sets of readings, a masterclass and workshops (plus more Poetry Idol judging).

Beaumont Street Studios

In conjunction with Beaumont Street Studios in Huddersfield, we are preparing to begin work on a series of on-stream and downloadable radio broadcasts. They will be magazine programmes, with a wide variety of live input – reading and discussing poetry.
